STEAMPunks Project Packs-To-Go October 2020: Pumpkins!

If you want to get REAL hands-on, this is some guidance on how to make Pumpkin Oobleck (slime). I think we did this in STEAMPunks last year but I was out of town (you can decide if this was by design-ha!) and Ms. Karen led the experiment.

Toasted Pumpkin Seeds are awesome, here are instructions with variations on seasonings but don’t be afraid to invent your own:

Or add mix-ins and create a custom trail mix:

Create your own with stuff you like in it and please forward us the recipe! Send it to and we might just share it with all the STEAMPunks!

I’ve always wanted to do this but never have, maybe this year is the year- An Accidental Pumpkin Patch!

I’m a HUGE fan of the massive pumpkins, or as the scientists call them- cucurbita maxima. This article goes into all of it; the biology of it and the competitive sport of it- truly fascinating.

If you can find this year’s record holder for largest pumpkin, send me a link and win a prize!

Here’s an article and video from 2009 of the largest GLASS pumpkin created at the Corning Museum of Glass. Amazing and so beautiful!!

Its fun to look through all the amazing varieties, this is a nice slideshow:

Make sure that you also visit a local stand! Here is the one your gift certificates came from! Tell us about other pumpkin stands that you love!

Q: Do pumpkins float?

A: Yes they do. (Do they really?? What do you think??)

Thank you to the United Way of Greater Rochester and the United Way of Seneca County for making these STEAMPunks Bags-to-Go possible. We are VERY grateful!
