Upcoming Painting Classes with Joanne Mitchell – New Date & Time

The Lodi Whittier Library is thrilled to announce, as part of our 2015 Arts and Artisans Series, sponsored by the Nelson B. Delavan Foundation, our Summer Painting Classes! We hope you will join us for this exciting line-up with some of our favorite local instructors!

Painted Flower Sampler with Joanne Mitchell

Rescheduled for Saturday, August 8

1:00-3:00

Painting a flower is different than planting a flower . . . you get to see it bloom and grow instantly the way you picture it in your mind.  Creating a flower sampler on a sheet of watercolor paper is a wonderful painting class and you will go home with a completed sampler of four flowers to frame and hang in your home to admire as long as you want.  We will learn how to paint flowers, leaves and stems through practice and using three kinds of brushes . . . a filbert, an angle, and a liner bush.  It is fun and exciting to see the flower come to life.  You will put a beautiful narrow ribbon between the four sections when your flowers are complete.

Theorem Painting with Joanne Mitchell

Saturday July 25

1:00-3:00

Traditional theorems were done on velvet, but today a variety of surfaces are being used.  This class is designed to teach you how to do theorem stenciling using oil paints, stencil brushes, velvet and watercolor paper to stencil beautiful flowers and fruits.  Using a series of stencils cut in a manner so as no two areas are stenciled that are immediately next to each other.  This method and the history of theorem painting will be explained during this class.  You will have a beautiful project to take home and frame!  Please wear a paint shirt or apron for this class.

All classes held at the Lodi Whittier Library, and all materials are provided (though wearing a shirt that can get messy would be helpful). All classes are for all skill levels.

Please note: Class size is limited to 10 people for each class, and due to high interest in classes in the past, we ask that participants choose only 1 of the 2 classes. Please register at the Lodi Whittier Library, and we look forward to seeing you at the classes!

  1. Joanne: You are a Jack of All Trades, and this library is lucky to have you. Interesting posts. I’m a needle punching fanatic, but I quit posting about it. No one around here is interested. It’s great that you’re spreading the word. Thanks for sharing.
